ESSAY

EMPOWERING STUDENTS through STRUCTURED ACTIVITIES for YOUTH
2009-2010

In the effort of helping parents build good character in their children, I am implementing a new opportunity in which your daughter(s) can display some of the life skills she is learning in addition to dance/twirl and poms.

Every month I will post a topic on the website in which your daughter may write a one page or less "ESSAY." The goal of this essay exercise is to identify the life skills she is learning in baton class and how these skills can be applied in other settings.

This is certainly not mandatory, but each girl who submits an essay to me by the end of the month will receive a special posting of her picture on our website. Essays can be hand written (be sure to include your name and baton class) or e-mailed.

E.S.S.A.Y TOPIC FOR APRIL 2010 – “LOYALTY”

Last month’s topic focused on the power of positivity. This month we are going to switch the train of thought. Since we have spent an entire year together and are nearing the end of the season, April’s topic will focus on “LOYALTY.”

 • In your ESSAY, please define “LOYALTY.”
• What does it mean to be a “LOYAL” person?
• How has your involvement in baton twirling taught you about “LOYALTY?” Give specific examples.

• In what ways has “LOYALTY” played a role in your life in areas outside of baton class? Give specific examples.

• Do you think it’s important to be a “LOYAL” person? Yes or No. (There is no right or wrong answer). Please explain either way.

 DUE: 4-30-10

Your ESSAY must be 100 words (or more).

E.S.S.A.Y TOPIC FOR MAY 2010 – “6 PILLARS OF CHARACTER”

Please research the “6 PILLARS OF CHARACTHER.”

 • What are the “6 PILLARS OF CHARACTER?”

• Define ALL 6 pillar words.
• After defining each of the 6 words, choose only 1 of the 6 pillars that you feel you have learned THE MOST about because of your involvement in baton twirling. Give specific examples that support your choice. (Remember, there is no right or wrong answer. I am just looking to see that you have specific examples to support your choice.)

DUE: 5-7-10

Your ESSAY must be 100 words (or more).

No May E.S.S.A.Y.S accepted after deadline of May 7.

Essays can be hand written or typed or emailed.
